Latest Piece
February 2nd, 2010
Here is my latest project. He is the only piece I was able to complete in 2009. I hope to have more to show you throughout this year including some how-to’s and taking you with me step by step through the creation of a piece.
This fellow is off to live in Indianapolis. My Sister-in-law does not know it yet but he is to be hers. We didn’t get to celebrate with them on the holiday and it keeps getting put off. I was used to him sitting in my living room and am both excited to see her reaction and sad to see him go all at once.
I posted more photos of him in the gallery. In a nut shell, he is a free sitting piece measuring about 22″ from toe to top. He is, as all my pieces are, sculpted from ProSculpt and constructed on a padded wire armature with body stocking. His clothing consists of a wonderful striped microfiber. I have used this material several times and am almost out. It makes for a stylish pant! His jacket is a gorgeous chenille I found in shades of gold, green, deep red, blue, and brown. It blends various patterns and was fun to create the cloak using the various areas to best effect.
He also sports a deep red vest, leather over sculpted shoes, and an embroidered micro-suede cap. As always, little details are tucked away to be discovered such as his Santa Key and a unique pocket watch piece.
The Dove he is holding is sculpted from poly clay and was covered in a wool like material first and then feathered. His eyes are made from a unique pair of beads I found and set into the clay. They give a depth and glimmer I was really pleased with.
I named this one Peace Talks. He sits on a trunk surrounded by toys.
Back Into the Spirit
February 2nd, 2010With the Holidays past we are all now fully functioning in the new year and back to our non-holiday schedules. Have you all plotted and planned your resolutions and goals for the 2010 of your dreams?
For my part, the challenge will be to balance my primary business (www.generatellc.com) with my artistic endeavors and find a success way to manage both in my generally crazy schedule. Both endeavors need both hands on work as well as some web marketing to achieve my 2010 goals.
Here are a few of the things I intend to do this year… Find time for Quilting and creating more Santas with some desire to integrate these arts into a couple unique pieces. Sell a number of Santa pieces as we need a new couch and it is not going to buy its self. I am hoping to utilize the added income from the Sculpting to fuel some of the projects and purchases I would like around our home. I can’t think of a more meaningful and joyful way to earn some of the things we want.
I need to incorporate the World Wide Web into this goal. I have yet to find someone blogging about art doll sculpting to any degree. I think there is much we can share as artist in the format! I will be getting my tweeting and blogging on track to get more traffic to the site and hopefully some sales for pieces either directly or via EBay.
In the coming months I plan to show the creation of a Santa from start to finish complete with photo and video. Please watch for us on Twitter (Clausmaker) as well to keep up with new posts and updates on the site!
